Havana is well-known as the city where American literary figure Ernest Hemingway spent much of his time during the 1940s and 1950s, and today visitors can relax in some of the same bars where the famous writer once drank.
El Floridita in Havana is one such bar, and is almost as famous for its Daiquiri cocktails as it is for being one of Hemingway’s favourite haunts.
The bar retains its 1950s-themed interior and has attracted a number of other celebrities in its time, including Naomi Campbell, Jane Fonda and Pierce Brosnan.
Meanwhile, literary buffs on Cuba tours should also visit La Bodeguita del Medio, another location frequented by the famous novelist and also a favourite of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Nat King Cole and Pablo Neruda.
Recently, the Cuban Intertests Section in Washington, DC opened a new invitation-only bar in honour of Ernest Hemingway, making it the third “Hemingway bar” in the world.
